Bodog MLB Odds: St Louis Cardinals vs Milwaukee Brewers

With just a month to go in the regular season this MLB betting series was expected to go a long way in deciding the NL Central champion. Instead, the St Louis Cardinals find themselves well back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the standings and sitting out of contention.

And on the World Series odds list at the Bodog Sportsbook the Cards have fallen back to 60/1 to win the championship this season, and to 30/1 to claim the NL Pennant.

The Milwaukee Brewers, in contrast, are up to 7/1 on the World Series odds list and to 7/2 on the NL Pennant board as they pull away from the Cardinals (and everyone else) in the NL Central standings. Milwaukee has played so well of late that they're now within shouting distance of the Philadelphia Phillies for the top record in the National League.

On Tuesday the Brewers will send Shaun Marcum (11-4, 3.38 ERA) to the mound in search of his fifth straight quality outing. The righthander was stuck with a loss against the Pirates last time out despite allowing only two runs over his six innings of work.

Overall, though, the Brewers are 6-2 in Marcum's eight most recent starts. Marcum pitched back-to-back against the Cardinals on August 2 and August 9, allowing a combined nine runs on 15 hits over 12 innings of work in a pair of no-decisions.

The Cardinals will be sending Edwin Jackson (10-9, 3.94 ERA) to the hill on Tuesday, and he beat the Pirates in his last start after surrendering four runs (one earned) on six hits over six innings pitched.

Righthander Jackson was blasted in Milwaukee on August 3 (10 runs on 14 hits over seven innings of work in a loss), but he bounced back at home against the Brewers on August 9 (three runs on six hits over six innings of work in a no-decision).
